Canvas: Stretched + Rolled
|
Enduring appeal, for so many good reasons...
For the reproduction of paintings originally on canvas it's a no-brainer, but canvas is now often the substrate of choice for many photographers, especially when it comes to considerations of convenience and economy. A stretched canvas is ready to hang, so no need to take it to the framers and it's less expensive by the square inch than a paper print framed behind glass. Added to that, it's light, robust, and most important, it looks great! Choose between a variety of sizes, (including custom sizing) and finishes to suit your individual needs. |
stretched canvasWe offer superior quality canvas stretching. Each frame is custom-built in-house from sustainably sourced timber. Our frames are always "over-built", the corner bracing and cross-bracing should ensure long-term stability beyond the normal call of duty. Once stretched they are neatly and securely finished at the back and arrive ready to hang.
As standard we stretch canvases with 'museum wrap' edges, the border taped with deep black which wraps around the side of the wooden stretcher. Alternatively we can provide 'gallery wrap' or 'mirror wrap', as shown below.

Rolled canvasIf you wish to stretch your canvas yourself or have a local framer that you use, we are happy to send canvases rolled, professionally packaged as shown here:

SUPERIOR STRETCHERS FOR panoramas
- Corner bracing combined with cross-bracing is standard
- Picture wire passes through the cross-brace to prevent sagging and slipping when hung by two or three hooks.
FLOAT FRAMES
Traditionally the way to frame paintings on canvas and so now prints on canvas, is with a 'Float Frame', so called because the canvas appears to float inside the frame, it's method of support hidden from view. The canvas sides are black as are the inside surfaces of the frame, enhancing the effect.

canvas finish options with lamination
"Glamour II Veneer" & "Timeless" by Breathing Color
Canvases do not leave us without first being laminated to protect them from UV light, moisture and abrasion. The canvas finish can be modified by the choice of lamination: Matte, Satin (60% gloss / 40% matte) or Gloss. Experience has shown that a semi-gloss mix is usually the finish of choice for matte canvas and most popular with our clients, it takes away the absolute flatness, adding just enough saturation and reflected light to bring it alive. If you have specific requirements for the laminate finish please be sure to let us know, otherwise we will use our discretion in applying the one that we consider to be the most appropriate for the image(s).

BREATHING COLOUR LYVE CANVAS
Breathing Color's "Chromata White" technology gives end-users the most stable platform on which to print photographs and fine art giclees without the metamerism issues or color shift issues inherent on other canvases that use Optical Brighteners. Optical Brighteners compromise the attainment of true color, they complicate profiling accuracy, and they inevitably deteriorate and yellow over time. (Read more...)
