ACRYLIC / PLEXIGLASS FACEMOUNT
Rivalling aluminum for clarity, saturation and a chic modern look, Acrylic (a.k.a. Plexiglass) Facemounts are the medium of choice for many photographers selling their work at the top end of the market.

facemount features
- Vivid, rich colors.
- Maximum Size: 92"x 42"
- 99.99% optically pure, cast 1/8" (3mm) acrylic.
- A sense of depth is achieved, resulting in an almost 3D effect.
- Metallic or Gloss Photo Paper
- Aluminum Hanging Rails which 'float' the piece off the wall. Choose from 5/8” or 1 1/4” depths.
- Edges either Machine Cut, or Machine Polished to a consistent, crystal-clear sheen giving a seamless image reflection (as shown below).
- Reflections diminished compared to a regular framed image.
- ‘Archival’ materials, formulated to inhibit damage from UV rays.
- The print is equally protected from the back and the front, sealed between the acrylic and the backing, moisture, dust and other pollutants can’t get in.
- Very tough: If a face mount is dropped on it’s edge there is a higher probability than any other presentation method that it will not be damaged because the reinforced backing protects the acrylic from getting chipped.
- Usually less expensive than a framed print of the same size.
Your image is printed with vivid colors, rich blacks and sparkling whites, onto Premium Metallic or Gloss Photo Paper, then face mounted onto the back of a 99.99% optically pure, cast acrylic (plexiglass) sheet.
Due to the unique reflective qualities of the acrylic when it is adhered to the print, light reflects quite differently than it does on an image framed behind glass. By comparison, overall reflections are relatively diminished as the usual internal reflections that occur because of the space between the print and the glazing are eliminated. Instead an almost three-dimensional effect is achieved and for the same reason the print also appears sharper, which combined with the vivid printing it really makes your image pop!

(e-panel is also available for mounting paper prints.

Hanging railsAluminum hanging rails are attached to the back (inset and hidden from sight) and once hung the image ‘floats’ off the wall. Choose 5/8" or 11/4" for the same price. It's the same bar flipped over on it's side, so 5/8" is recommended for larger sizes due to the increased contact area for the adhesive.

care of the acrylic surface
Acrylic Facemounts can be cleaned with a soft cloth and water, with or without a mild soap. Do not use window/glass cleaner. Make sure the cloth is free of anything that might scratch the surface.
Warning: Whilst very durable, the surface can be scratched and if it is badly scratched the entire piece will need to be replaced. However, for small surface scuffs specialized cleaners for acrylic/plexiglass are readily available, with at least a couple at Home Depot:
PLASKOLITE Plastic cleaner is an alcohol free anti-static formula that is safe to use on a variety of plastics, including acrylic and polycarbonate. Used with a lint-free cloth, this cleaner will prevent fingerprints, repel dust and improve shine.
An automotive plastic polish (e.g. "MOTHERS", also available from Home Depot) sounds like a great remedy for minor scuffs. I haven't tried it (so if anyone has I'd love to know) but they boldly claim that it "...will clean, shine and protect with crystal clarity. This is a genuine polish for buffing out hairline scratches, smudges, oxidation, flaws and little nicks, as well as cleaning away stains and yellowing from your plastic convertible top window. Mothers Plastic Polish doesn’t stop there - it protects your plastics from the sun, smog, water stains and airborne contaminants with a tough layer of polymers."

*Footnote: Although the materials used are archival quality and therefore the longevity of the print is expected to be proportionate, the Acrylic Facemount itself is not technically “archival” because the process is irreversible. In order for a print to be considered truly archival, any method of presentation must be reversible without damaging the print.
